Florida, Red Breasted Sunfish

We camped in the Big Cypress National Preserve and visited the everglades and went out to Key West on a day trip.

We stopped in the Everglades and I fished in a run for some sunfish I could see. The fish were not being cooperative until I tried a weighted brown fly with a jigging action. I caught several which were identified as Red Breasted Sunfish by the park ranger. I thought that they might be a chiliad and was thrilled to add a red breasted sunfish to my list of fish.

I also caught bluegill and largemouth bass. I fished a channel leading to the ocean and hooked a snook which broke off almost immediately. We will return to Florida some day and fish for snook.
