Maryland, Green Sunfish
We went to the Chesapeake and Ohio National Heritage Site and I fished the old canal in Hancock. The fishing started off slow, using woolly buggers. I changed to a sunfish size deer hair popper and caught my first ever Green Sunfish. I caught several green Sunfish, a couple of bluegills and a black crappie.
The next day we went to Blairs Valley Lake where a regular showed me the nymphs he routinely caught fish with off of the dam. I caught several crappies on a bead head hare’s ear. I realized that most of the fish were hitting about 2 to three feet below the surface and tied on a grass hopper with a hare’s ear on a 3-foot dropper. My catch rate went up and I caught a good size blue gill on the popper.
